Tram Master App Released!

TramMaster

Tram Master

After several months of visiting all the Tram stops in and around Croydon, and drawing 3D maps of them all … our new app, Tram Master is out!

We’ve drawn 3D maps of all the tram stops on the network, so you can see at a glance the layout of the station, which end of the tram stop the exit is, along with where the steps, ramps and lifts are, showing you how accessible all 39 tram stops are.

Download Tram Master on the App Store today! We’ve discounted it by 25% for a limited time only after the launch!

Meet … Mapway!

Our exciting festive news which we’ve been working on for a while and can now be revealed is that we’ve teamed up with the nice people at Mapway. Formerly known as mxData, you might already have one of their Apps on your phone – The Tube Map App.

We’ve teamed up with them to provide some of the data (such as exits, and 3D Maps) that’s within Station Master so that the Tube Map app can have access to it as well!

And for people that have been asking us for ages “When will your App be on Android”, the great news there is that the Tube Map App (including the Station Master data from early 2016) is on the Android platform!

There’s more over on the Mapway pages with their press release, including “One of the features we’re especially looking forward to sharing with you, is the addition of accessibility information for London Underground stations. And this won’t be your usual step-free info, that’s for sure. Thanks to Station Master we’ll have all sorts of details about accessibility for wheelchair users, people with prams and even travellers with luggage! So you have a clearer view of how easy a Tube platform is to reach, depending on the situation”

We’re also working with them on other projects in 2016, which we’ll reveal at some point, but until then have a look at the Tube Map App if you don’t already have it, and Merry Christmas from the Station Master!

Happy 3rd Birthday to us!

Happy birthday to us! Happy birthday to us!

Station Master has been on the App Store for 3 years today and we’ve come a long way since we woke up on a Saturday morning to find our original version 1.0 had been approved by Apple (after 10 long nerve-racking days of waiting) and was finally on sale just as the London 2012 Olympic Games kicked off.

Since then we’ve added iPad support, 3D station maps, enhanced accessibility information, carriage graphics and kept our data up-to-date as the network has changed over time.

We also won an award for best App for accessibility / step free information from TfL too!

Last year we added two new Apps to the Station Master family; Exit the Tube with just the exits from Station Master in it, for those of you who want even faster access and Oyster Errors that tells you what those funny numbers mean that sometimes come up when you fail to touch in or out correctly.

Not resting on our laurels, this year we introduced our Visual Tube Status App complete with Apple Watch App and our Disused Tube App to the Station Master group of Apps.

Thanks too, to everyone who got in touch to tell us where things had changed or where they needed tweaking here and there!  We’ve always taken your comments on board and updated our information based on those comments.

So, to celebrate, until midnight tonight, we are giving you a chance to get your hands on BOTH Station Master and Disused Tube for a 3rd birthday half-price of just £1.49 each!  And if you’ve bought both the Apps already, why not gift them to someone or spread the word!

Click the links above or see our Buy Now Page on the website for more information!

Cheers!  The Station Master Team.  (Matthew and Geoff)

Disused, about to arrive

Whilst our previous post may – we admit – have been an April fool jape, we can honestly say that the Disused Tube app is tantalisingly close to being ready for release, and we expect it to hit the App store sometime this month in April …

Station Master 1.9.2 update available

Version 1.9.2 of Station Master has now (finally!) been released and is available on the App Store.

It’s been a long time (7 months!) since version 1.9 was released back in July 2014, and this version has been a little while coming, but we are delighted that this update brings you the following features…

• Updated 3D station map and exit positions for the new Tottenham Court Road Northern Line station. (We’re the only App at present to have this information!)

• Amazon Locker and Supermarket Click-and-Collect service locations.

• Over 150 refreshed or new 3D maps, 326 in total, which includes all of the 270 Tube stations!

• Updates for iOS 8, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus – looks great on your larger screen device.  We’ll be working in future to take advantage of the increased screen real estate on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus devices too.

• Updates and corrections to the database.  As always, thank you to everyone who sent, and continues to send, us information, corrections and updates.

• Minor stability and performance improvements.  (This is the stuff that makes Matt happy, including one very obscure bug on the iPad! and some very odd layout issues on iPhone 4 and 5 devices when built for the latest versions of iOS!)

and from 1.9:

• S-Stock (S7) door positions for the Circle and Hammersmith & City lines

Take a moment to download the update (if you didn’t already download it automatically) and while you’re waiting for the download to complete…

Don’t forget about our other Apps!

ExittheTubeRoundedLogo152x152Don’t forget we have TWO other Apps available on the App Store; here’s the first one …

Ever wanted to have the handy exit information that Station Master provides, but… just wanted that?  It’s something that people asked us for and so we created a companion App to Station Master.

It retains the the fancy carriage graphics that came out with the 1.8 version of Station Master.  Download our App ‘Exit the Tube‘ which is JUST the exact carriage and door exit information for every Underground, Overground and DLR station in London.

Exit the Tube is available on the App Store.

It runs on iOS 5.0, iOS 5.1 and iOS 6 for all you iOS 7 & 8 refuseniks out there!

However, we urge you to upgrade to iOS 8.1.3 (or iOS 7.1.2 if you own an iPhone 4) if you are able to do so!  We’ll also soon be dropping support for iOS releases prior to iOS 5.1.1 in upcoming releases of both Exit the Tube and Station Master

OysterErrorsRoundedLogo152x152Here’s the second App which we sell – a simple lookup for errors that you can get on a Barrier Gate when you touch in or out with your Oyster or Contactless Payment Card. When this happens, an error number flashes up on the gate, and if you make a note of that number, you can look it up using our App to see what it means.

e.g. the most common error number is ‘36‘ – which means you don’t have enough credit on your Pay-As-You-Go balance, but there any many others too! And we’ve got them all listed here in the App for you.

Oyster Errors is also available on the App Store.  And we’ve got an update in the pipeline for it available very soon now, with the very latest codes and support for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus (and maybe even the iPad!).

(Oyster Errors is available for iOS 7.0 and above only.)

The best place to board the train …

Something that Station Master is all about is telling you the perfect carriage and door position to be in to be near the exit – and yet it’s something that we’ve never seen or heard TfL do, until now – when we came across this very friendly member of platform staff at Leicester Square the other night.

“Please DO move down the platform – it really is less crowded if you don’t all go in the middle of the train, you won’t be squashed in like a sardine, and you might even get a seat!” he was cheerfully announcing every few minutes.

And then he did something that we’ve never heard before – advise on the best carriage positions.

“Actually, if you’re going to Waterloo” he continued “You’ll want to be in the rear car of this six carriage train as that’s the nearest exit point to the escalator” he cheerful announced. Amazing! Never have we heard a member of staff do this before, and now here it was – happening.

It was clearly a ruse just to stop overcrowding of the middle of the Leicester Square platforms, oh – and either the front or rear carriages is the place to be for the southbound Northern Line at Waterloo.
