Strike Walking Map

So there’s a ‘Walk London’ map doing the rounds on the internet today on strike day, giving suggested walking times between various places – but we’re not entirely sure that it’s accurate (or helpful!). You can’t walk from Holloway Road to Caledonian Road in 3 minutes, and then if you commuted regularly between Belsize Park and Leicester Square, you wouldn’t added up the times between the stops, because you wouldn’t walk on the street the route that the tube takes underground, you’d go in a more direct line through the back streets of London.

Still, here it is …

Tube Strike this week?

With the unions up in arms about the Night Tube service scheduled to start in September, there is the potential of a complete tube strike on Wednesday of this week, starting in the afternoon and going on into Thursday.

If that is the case, then it’s likely ALL tube service will not run. And whilst you make think that Overground, DLR and TfL Rail service will still run – they will, but there are stations on the network that are managed by London Underground and will most likely be affected in that they won’t be open!

This could affect :  West Ham, Stratford, Canning Town, Blackhorse Road, Queens Park to Harrow and Wealdstone, Highbury, Whitechapel, Canada Water and Bank.

Tube Strike Map

With another tube strike set to start at 9pm on the 28th April 2014, services will be hugely disrupted all day on Tuesday 29th and Wednesday 30th April.

TfL have produced a document listing which services they hope to run (between 7am and 11pm) but again it’s hard to decipher, which is why we’ve created something visual – the familiar tube map showing where (and how frequently) services should be running.

This time we’ve included TfL’s Overground and DLR services too, which aren’t affected by the strike action.

Walk during the tube strike

By Sunday evening/Monday morning here at Station Master we’ll have an updated tube map (pretty similar, I suspect to last time) of what tube services are expected to be running during the strike.

Before that, the people over at Ary & Joe have come up with a Walk London Tube Map, where they show the walking times between two stations.

Now either I’m a fast walker, or they’ve been ridiculously conservative because I think it’s safe to knock about a third off the time of ALL the walking times that they show on this map, but it’s nice to see anyway. As usual – click on it for the larger version.

Tube Strike Map

[See our post “Strike Thursday” for the latest Strike Map and information!]

With it looking increasingly likely that the tube strike is not going to be called off, Station Master has taken TfL’s list of tube services that it says it is hoping to have running, and turned it from a hard-to-understand list, into an easy-to-look at map – showing lines and stations that are opening with expected train frequencies in minutes.

We’ll live update this on Wednesday and Thursday as/if and when the situation changes.
